55-200mm AF-S Nikon

Does anybody have any experience with this lens on a Nikon D40. I need to know how it matches up in terms of focusing speed, and if VR is needed.

Thanks

matches up to what, exactly? It's an entry-level lens and as they go it's pretty decent. The VR one is better, but more expensive. I'm sure there was a non-VR one for under £100 on the Sales forum...

It'll certainly be at least as good as your 70-300. The 55-200 VR is a cracking wee lens,if you can get one at a decent price.

You will enjoy the lens, I had one as a kit lens with my D60. What are you planning to use it for?

It might be a little short for birds/wildlife, but will give you chance to practice looking like a bird table ;)

theres been a few for sale on here recently , search the "for sale" section

I've got one and i'm very happy with it

I bought the VR one for my D60 & kept it for my D90 as its such a handy little lens to keep in the bag. VFM wise i don't think you can go too far wrong.
