580EX II to 30D

I want to move the flash further away than the 2 feet of the Off Shoe Cord and can't afford the wireless transmitter. I know I would have to use manual but the cable I linked to is 5m / 15 feet. It's the plug type I am worried about.
 
do you only need these cables for a off shoe sync ? i ordered a 580EX II but it will be my first flash, im also using the 30d
 
You can use the PC cord but you'll a hotshoe adapter for the flash connection I think.
 
Will the 580 not act as an infra red slave from the pop up flash?

I thought the all singing flash would :(


I bought a Jessops branded off camera lead for my 430ex, the coils in the lead are a pita though and getting any distance away from the body is hard with out the lead springing the flash back at you.
 
oops, you're right, it was that I was thinking of, not the remote release, sorry.

I don't think so mate - the 580EX receives a radio signal from another flash device which has to be set to the same channel?
