5D3 / 24-105 Power Issue

Bit of a random query:

I've recently bought a 5D3, and at the moment I'm in the course of swapping my lens lineup around. Whilst I await my new deliveries I'm using lenses from uni.

I've currently got their 24-105L and it seems to cause my 5D3 to power off claiming empty batteries after a random amount of time inactivity or after a few images. Turning off and on again allows me to continue shooting, with the correct power displayed, until the problem repeats.

This does not happen with either the 35L/135L/24-70L that I have had on this body.

It seems to happen with both IS on or off.

Has anyone else had anything similar?

I've used my gripped 5D3 and 24-105 f4L for long periods and never had any problems with it. I was at an all day gig a while ago and it was turned on for most of the time I was there without any problems. Have you tried it without the grip, if it does the same then it must be a lens problem rather than any of your kit.

If it does turn out to be the lens I'd tell the uni asap or else they may think you've caused the problem and maybe try billing you for the repairs if necessary.
