5DIII aperture changes when it goes to sleep?

I'm asking this for someone else, it's not happening to me. This is what they said.

"My camera (5d3) is on manual, but every time it goes to "sleep" after a minute of me not touching it, the aperture changes automatically. I am on the road and don't have my Manual. Any ideas? I have turned on/off, took the battery out etc. and I am positive it's not on aperture priority or anything like that".

You guys have any idea what she is talking about. I ask her about the lens being used but it's the sigma 35m art so it's a constant aperture lens.

It is def on M ?, is one of the dials being caught / moved to alter the aperture / how is she waking the camera up (??? just in case she's catching a dial ???)

Does it do it with any other lens ?

How old is the camera and has it done it previously ?

Has she updated the firmware - did this then start this ? / Is there a firmware update - would this resolve it ?

No help today, but if it is def on M and there are no obvious reasons, I'd be calling Canon next week and seeing if they can offer any help - unless of course, someone pops on here with a solution :)
 
If you are in any mode other than M or AV then this is normal
 
I've only noticed this in the Cx modes - here, when the camera sleeps then wakes, the original mode settings are restored which can catch you out if you've modified them. Shouldn't happen in manual though.
 
Do you have safety shift on? This is meant to adjust some setting if exposure change to an extreme where the camera cant get a correct exposure.
 
The other guys and I were talking about it and the only thing we could come up with is that she had it on custom setting where it was set in manual and she made some adjustments so when the camera went to sleep and woke up it went back to the original custom setting and that is where the change occurred. We ask her but she said that it is just set on manual. Truth is, I kind of think that she is leaving something out.

Wow learn something new every day thanks. I just looked up safety shift but it seems this is only used in the priority modes. Can you use it in manual mode or is that just a case where you use auto iso?
 
The 1st option will adjust the aperture or shutter speed in TV and AV shooting mode to get a good exposure. With the 2nd option safety shift will adjust the ISO in Program P, TV and AV modes, But not in Manual. This function will happen automatically if there is a sudden shift in exposure which would cause the camera to not get a good exposure.

It is useful for say when your subject is moving from brightly lit area's to shadows. Like if you were shooting something at 1/1000 with your aperture set to f22, then your subject moves into brightly lit sunlight, but the change would call for you to shift down to another f-stop but you cant because you've run out off apertures. This is when Safety Shift comes in where it will set a faster shutter speed automatically to get a correct exposure.

I guess this isn't what's happening here if his camera is set in manual.
