600D 3rd party grip

Bought a grip from flea bay the grip plugs in and powers camera up but as soon as I press any of the buttons on it the camera shuts down .. Basically are grips just plug and play or do I need to change any settings ..

Ps the box says it's for a 550 D but the listing says it works on the 600d as well

Any Help would be grateful
 
I have one it is what you'd expect for the price
the batteries it came with are pants
out of 4 cheap batteries I bought only 1 is ok
it does however power up the camera ok but the timer function is a dodgy which is what I bought it for really
