Canon EF 70-200mm f4L IS USM + TC Vs Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6L IS USM

What one would you have and why?:shrug:

Any reason why you would buy the 70-300 over the 70-200+tc ?
 
I have never used the combo, but personally I don't like using tele converters. If you decided you need a lesser focal such as 70mm on the 70-200 you would have to take the converter off, meaning there could be a missed shot. I know there are people who use the 70-200 and converter and are happy with it, but if you gave me the choice it would be the 70-300 over the 70-200 and converter.
 
I bought a 70-200L + 1.4 extender combination about 18 months ago and have been very pleased with the 70-200 and reasonably pleased with the two together.

But I think that having read the reviews, if chosing today, for almost the same money, I would probably go for the 70-300L.

The main problem with using the convertor, as mentioned above, is that as soon as you start to zoom back (below about 120mm) you might as well take it off, and you are losing a stop of light as well as the 70-200 becomes a 5.6 through it's whole range.

I dislike having to change lenses at the best of times and changing the convertor on and off is not an option for me, so I tend to overlook shots that require 70-150mm when I have the convertor fitted.

Hi,

My reason for buying one was the size, build, quality of the lens and being easy to travel with.

Also even with its tripod foot on it fits in my smaller canon bag (the olive and green type).

I think it was made for the 7D.

Depends, if you're going to use it as a 70-200 alone quite a bit as well then I would have that one. If you only really want the longer length of the 70-300, get that instead.
