70-300 AFS VR

I have recently purchased the Nikon 70-300 afs vr, and I am very happy with the results, however I do find the zoom ring very stiff compared to other zooms I have used in the past. does anybody Know if the zooming ring will become easier with use or is it a feature of this lens ?
any comments from people who use this lens would be appreciated.

I have this lens & i can't honestly say it isn't stiff at all. Did you buy it from new?

I just wonder whether it's worth popping into a local shop and hold one of theirs for a good comparison
 
The zoom ring isn't stiff on mine either and it wasn't when I bought it new. It would be worth taking it back and asking for another for comparison
 
Yes it was bought from new from Warehouse Express, I will try to test another at some time. I did not try one before I purchased it, I just went on reading good reviews, is it because it is plastic casing it just dosn't feel silky smooth like other afs lenses
 
Ditto mine is relatively easy to rotate but not so loose as to suffer "zoom creep".

Give it a bit of use for few days, if you still think it's not ok ask for a replacement.
