I've got a 7d on order and will need to get a spare battery too. There seem to be so many suppliers out on the net and I just don't know where to start.

Can anyone recommend a decent (preferably cheap) supplier of batteries?

thanks guys

EDIT - Well, this is what I have gone for - cracking price too and £6 delivery for Thursday morning. I ordered it on Tues night (last night)

If you only use 1, you should get the offical one otherwise you won't get the battery indicator to work. If you have a grip, you can use an offical one and a 3rd party one side by side to give you an indication.

It is just the one I am after, not the grip. But it definately has to be the official Canon battery as I don't like the thought of third party anyway

Yes Amazon have been the cheapest place I've found... I've been researching them as well - they're about £50 there...

nothing wrong with aftermarket batteries, all the same inside anyway. Recently bought a £7 job off eBay (UK supplier) - just as good as the original (thus far), battery indicator works fine too.

I assume he's referring to 7D and 5D Mk II batteries which are chipped so that only Canon ones give you a working battery indicator.

I thought I'd add that I can get 1200 photos easily out of two batteries without either of them dropping below 25% (you get an accurate % readout with these batteries) - that's using IS lenses and with histogram checking fairly frequently. I think if I pushed it I could get 2000 but I've never had a need for that many shots in one day!

ooh that's a bit pants. Yep 5D classic I was referring to, sorry.

That said I never look at the indicator anyway.

I took 2210 shots with 2 Canon Batteries in 1 day with 26% left at the end of it, it was so handy too as I knew i had to make it last (didn't want to go into my AA backups really if i could help it as I need them for the flash). So I was checking every few hours in the battery indicator for the accurate percentage.

Try the Titan ones that Phottix do (Etefore on Ebay), I've used them in everything from my D80 right through to the D300 and G10. If they do the right battery then I'd recommend grabbing a couple

After looking into this, I decided to get a proper Canon one for my 7D as the indicators don't seem to work on the after market. Got a good price from Digital Depot when I got the camera. Took 1100 pictures on one battery the other day and it was still half full. Reckon 1 and a spare is fine...

yeah I noticed that, was really surprised. But their lenses are over priced, some by a LONG way. Oh well, good deal on the battery! I had £60 to spend left and was getting stressed out last night. I will get the spare battery before the camera...I just hope the camera get's here soon!
