7d Airshow Settings

Ok well im going to set up some custom settings on my 7d, thinking of using the custom modes C1,C2,C3 with different settings dialed in for different shooting situations. E.G Fast jets, props & stactics etc.
So my question is what settings would you put into each custom mode and for what kind of shooting situation.

Fast jets - Tv 1/1000 (or higher) Auto ISO if the weather is a bit murky, if not ISO 100 ish.
Props - Tv 1/250th (to start) ISO 100

Both the above with AI Servo

Statics - Av, wide open :)

Just a rough guide, but you'll start getting prop blur around 1/400th... Panning is quite tricky especially if it's your 1st go, you'll probably get lots of bin shots.

Jets you want the SS as high as possible, if the weather is really nice just shoot in AV

I had not seen any one else's settings, for blurred prop shots at an air show I used speed 125, got pretty good results, is that considered a bit slow ? These shots were with a Canon 50D. Hope you did not mind me posting this on your thread.

Depending on the weather, which is a major factor at airshows, I set AV and use SS around 1/200-250 for props, 1/1000-1/1250 for fast jets and whatever suits the static display. Keep the ISO down as much as possible and use EV+/- for shots into the sun, use 'spot metering' to get the right exposure for the plane, even if it blows the sky, and AIservo to keep the action.

I use back button focussing with AIservo to get the best out of the shots as I find BBF is easier for tracking and you can focus and recompose if necessary.
 
Surely the 7D you can set auto-ISO minimal shutter speed? in that case, set around 1/800 for jets and 1/200 for prop. Then just Av, AI Servo and job done.

My 5D2 can't set auto-ISO minimal shutter speed :( so I have to keep changing the ISO to get my desired shutter speed. Or use Tv and get softer shots with my £100 tele lens. (only use tele for planes, don't see myself spending £££ for one that rarely gets used)
 
This could quite a handy thread. I've recently got a new 7d, and although i love it, i can never decide which focus setting to use on moving objects, and in particular what id use when i hit the airshows, e.g. Multi point, single point, auto etc etc.
 
Well I've always got the ai servo and full speed continuous shooting.

But on the 7d you can have one point only, such as centre as you said. But you can pick centre but with the availability to lock onto others in its vicinity, or you can choose say the middle 4 or 6 and it picks what it feels is best etc etc. Just wondering what the other 7d users plump for
