I posted a thread before but it was inconclusive as to if my 7D was noisier than it should be. I took some random pics last night and I still think the noise is worse than I was expecting from the 7D, it's not all that much different from my old 400D TBH. :'(

Can someone please have a look at these raw files I have uploaded to RS and see what you think. They are straight off the camera with no alterations at all. The EXIF should be in the files. LENR is Standard and HTP is Off.

1) ISO 100 - http://rapidshare.com/files/375415426/Test-003.CR2.html
2) ISO 800 - http://rapidshare.com/files/375415428/Test-004.CR2.html
3) ISO 3200 - http://rapidshare.com/files/375415431/Test-006.CR2.html
The above 3 the focus point in the face of the chocolate Santa.

4) ISO3200 - http://rapidshare.com/files/375415433/Test-007.CR2.html
5) ISO1600 - http://rapidshare.com/files/375415434/Test-010.CR2.html
These last two the focus was on the white plastic dog clock thing. They show much more noise after the change of focus point. Why is that?

Thanks to anyone who has a look at them. I am really desperate to know if my 7D is a bad copy or not.

Tried to have a look, but link keeps requesting that I need to subscribe to a premium account.

rapidshare totally sucks, put them on drop.io it's way better, you dont have to mess around with the irritating timers limited downloads

Looks like rapidshare is broken at the moment. It should give a countdown.

Rapidshare is no good for multiple files like this - zip them up, otherwise we'll have to wait 15 mins between downloads. Not many people have that much patience.

don't ever use rapid share, it really is poo.

drop.io is much better you can even preview images and video on it without the need for download and custom choose your address

I d/l the ISO800 file-and it looks clean to me, after a wait, I d/l the ISO1600 file, and although there is noise, I don't think it's excessive.

It cleaned up very well with some NR (dfine set at auto)

After NR-resize for web (ISO1600 file)

The photos Les has NR are pretty good!! Id be happy with them

Just looked at the 3200 one and it looks good to me, even before any noise reduction, with noiseware reduction it looks great

The comments are quite reassuring. I have a decent grasp of photography but have never had a high-end camera until I got the 7D so I don't really have any experience of what a good high ISO image should look like.

The only thing I wonder about is why there is much more noise when the focus point is changed as it is between the files in the first and second zips. When focused on the dog clock thing the focus point was about a foot nearer to the camera than when it was on the Santa.
Is it becaue the Santa thing is pretty much right up against the blue curtain so there is no background bluring due to depth of field, whereas when focused on the dog clock there was some depth of field that was blurred a bit buy the aperture?
