7D or D300s or D7000 or ???

Hey folks,

The 7D has been reserved and ordered to view...should arrive in a couple of days.

Was talking to an EXPERT (I'm not one) & he said the D300s was a better piece of kit.
He also said if I was excluding the D7000 for buffer size, "hue many times will you be taking continuous shots for more 3 seconds" - I think I will be for sports.

So what do we think ? Which one to go for ?
Shooting a bit of everything, both feel nice in my hands.
Which camp is better for growing with your camera ?
Can you use crop lens on full-frame bodies ?

Anyone?
 
You can certainly use Nikon DX (crop) lenses on their FX (full frame) cameras, however the FX bodies only produce 5mp images in DX mode, so it's a bit pointless.
 
You have purchased a camera, why not just take some photos and enjoy it. You will get conflicting reports dependant on brand loyalty but basically they all take photos, so forget about it all and go and get snapping once the camera arrives.
 
The D7000 thing, he's wrong. Completely. His statement of "hue many times will you be taking continuous shots for more 3 seconds" would be accurate to cover shooting rate (i.e. frames per second), but that's not to do with the buffer specifically - the fact that the D7000 has a limited buffer and clears it at a slow rate which is the big problem.

Besides, listen to what Jim says. This guy sounds like a Nikon "expert" more than anything else.
 
Everyone has their personal opinion on which is better, but if you look at a few impartial review sites you'll find they all score them very similarly.

At the very least the 7D is as good as the D300s, perhaps a bit better in some ways, perhaps not quite as good in others.

Look at it this way. You'll be buying a camera that is rated as one of the best APS-C cameras available whichever you go for, and you've tried them and found they are all comfortable. So there isn't really a wrong choice.

If you buy canon, you'll eventually talk to an "expert" who says you should have gone nikon, if you buy nikon you'll eventually talk to an "expert" who says you should have gone canon.
So just buy a camera that you like and ignore what other people tells you ;)

Whichever feels the best for you. If you have older lens and like the main body you have, then get an upgrade on those lines. If you don't have anything yet, then try both see which 'feels' better to you. Both have a wide range of lenses, prices and quality. Both, um all can use older lenses from their own brands (mostly) and can also use other brands (sometimes, thinking m42 here) via adapters.

Yup, but it gets restricted to the crop bit of the sensor. Better to get fx lenses (which I think are better quality?) if you feel you might go that way in the future.
 
As a Nikon user and having used all three cameras including the 7D I would say the 7d is a bit better than the D300s.

I would also say that taking photos of wildlife and sport with a D7000 I have had no problem with the buffer.

abit better what af speed.

also does depend on lenses used, i found not differnce but then i ound the pentax k5 to be just as good as both, the only downside to the pentax was after af tracking for so lon it just stops and the only way to get it to go again is to press the butoon again.

Yes AF speed and IQ, i.e. more detail due to MP count, even though it pains me to say it. :lol:

weired i found the 7d and 100-400mm to be about the same as the d300 and siggy 50-500mm os, as for the mp thing i cant see much difference in it also like the 5dmk11 has more than the d700 but all the images i have upsampled there has not be nothing in it, but hey ho
my gx20 has 14.6 mp and i get more detail from my d300, and my friend with his pentax k5 still says the image quality at low iso is better than the k5.
 
I was using primes and the detail was better but that was just my opinion, I'm not saying it was right and there is so many things that can influence it.

Another time and place and I might see different results.
