My 7d has started to play up :'(

Wanted to use the onboard flash the other day and it would not open, when I went into the menu (built in flash func setting it came up with a message "This menu cannot be displayed. External flash is attached" which it wasn't. When I went into the external flash func. setting the message was "This menu cannot be displayed. Incompatable flash or flash's power is turned off"

Has anyone else had this problem?
 
I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure there is a little button that get depressed when an external flash is fitted. I think it is situated under one of the rails.

Has that gotten stuck. Maybe a bit of switch cleaner or even compressed air will sort it out.
 
Yep, I had exactly the same once not too long after buying my 7D. As above there is a small switch under one of the hot shoe rails (the rail on the right I believe), which stayed stuck in when I removed my flashgun. I stuck a toothpick into it and all was better.
