85mm 1.2 back focussing - calibration or return?

I'm glad I popped back in here to see how you were getting on, saves me from doing a nationwide search for another one ;)

Glad you are getting it sorted Matt and :notworthy: to Ryan for spotting that it had a problem!

Bless ya Ali

:$

It takes a bit of balls to say "Oi - your focusing is out" but I'd rather do that than go down the "Emperor's New Clothes" route and pretend all is fine. Just grateful to Matt for taking it in the spirit it was meant.

And Matt - I'm so pleased that you can get it calibrated by the seller. Happy days!! :)

 I LOVE THIS PLACE and I Love you Guys and Gals!

Ryan thanks matey

Ali  Thanks for the offer of a hunt!

Glad to hear your getting it sorted!

Funnily enough i got my 70-200 in and it's doing similar. Trouble is, it's secondhand so i can't expect the guy to give me my money back for that. It's maybe not as far out as yours and being only f4, it isn't probably as big a deal.

Maybe this is an excuse to get 5D2's! ;) :D

:( Hope you get it sorted Dave, and if not the lens calibration is not a majorly expensive service.

UPDATE: Shop have confirmed it as back focussing severely and are sending it off for calibration. Bad news is that it could be up to two weeks before I have it back in my hands.

Thanks again to all those who have helped - I appreciate it and cant wait to get back to playing with the glass!

And... ITS BACK!!!!!
The lens is now back from the suppliers. Took a little while but is now beltingly sharp:

oooops need to read entire thread first

Is it only me, or do other folks feel that the way this lens clips the sides off the out of focus highlights (see pic above) rather takes the edge off the bokeh?

The light cone is just too big to fit through the mirror box. It would look better at f/1.4 to my eye, maybe f/1.6 - whatever it takes to clear it.
