Apologies for the low res - using TP gallery as am at work. But as you can see the lens is now focussing perfectly.
A HUGE thanks and gazzilions of man hugs to all of you that have offered advice - Ryan, Bob, Les, Mark, Dave, Ali - thanks to you and more I now have a perfectly working dream lens!
FANKOOOO

Glad it's sorted
Looks like you've got your shot at f/1.2 so you can start stopping down now and forget the wide open stuff..... I have :shake:
Bob
Look on the back of the packet Les.....there's bound to be unpleasant side effects.Don't worry Bob, we have a cure for this terrible addiction

Is it only me, or do other folks feel that the way this lens clips the sides off the out of focus highlights (see pic above) rather takes the edge off the bokeh?
The light cone is just too big to fit through the mirror box. It would look better at f/1.4 to my eye, maybe f/1.6 - whatever it takes to clear it.
