85mm 1.2 has arrived! First test shots included.

Tis a beaut camera Les.

Only when they give the 1D series ISO performance like the D3 would I be tempted!

That's exactly my train of thought too! I wonder when the 1ds mkIV is due and whether it will challenge the D3 on ISO performance..

Oh and Matt make sure you don't focus and recompose with f1.2....it simply doesn't work... you will be crying out for more focus points too!

I don't use mine anywhere as much as it deserves..

That is a good shot Les, but I don't think that I could hold an 85mm that steady at 1/60. Well done.

Matt - the shots above were lock recomposed on back button. Can see how at such a fast aperture it would make a huge difference!

Excellent buy for under a grand. I'd give it a few weeks until you remember the lens stops down from 1.2

 Marac have you become unable to part with yours?

I can only speak for the mkII but I've never found the focus speed *that* bad. It's understandable with the sheer lump of glass it's having to move around but if you're anywhere close to being in focus it snaps in fairly well. Of course if you're going from closest focus to infinity (or the reverse) then yes... it seems to take an age!

The end result, *when* you get it right more than makes up for it though :)

I love my 85mk1 1.2 too much its permanetly attached to my 5D (expensive point and click). Whatever pictures i take of my kids i use it as the pictures produced are just breathtaking. Here is a picture of my son which just blew me away.

My 24-105 isn't used at all and gathering dust but why am i thinking of getting the f2.8?

Have fun with the lens :)

Yep can totally agree with all of that. I think there is a skill/nack to it in keeping the focus plain as close as you can to where you need it. Totally cant get it on with manual yet!
Had a walk round for my latest fiddytwo entry and absolutely LOVED it!

Cheers matey - what a stunning pic to show it off! I love this lens with all my heart already! It is just dreamy to the max!
I really hope it stays stuck to the 5D - ff and 85 were made for each other.

Thanks for the wishes and for posting your thoughts!
