I spent an hour or so this morning following butterflies around the garden, hoping to get a shot of a Painted Lady on some Lavender, but that didn't happen. But i did manage to get this Small skipper and Painted Lady (although i'm not sure if i like the background for the PL)

I think you're right tbh - both shots are lovely but the cleaner background in the first is more effective. It is the pink splodge in the second that is the problem - it draws the eye which is a shame.
