Here are a couple of images I took recently of the Milky Way, I am still getting to grips with the whole Astro Photography thing, I think they are both a touch soft and could do with a bit more time on the processing front but any feedback or crit would be great.

I like the colours in both shots, but number 2 is VERY wonky, to no great effect IMHO.

Thanks for looking, I used the tree to give a sense of being taken from the ground, I agree it won't be to everyone's taste.
 
cant see the exif but would say higher iso ( around 3200 ), wide open aperture and exposure around 15-20 secs.
very nice attempts though
 
Hi John,
I think your attempts at the Milky Way are very good indeed considering light pollution that we are faced with.
With reference to too much trail, I don't agree. What is being seen is the lens aberation in the corners which always happens even with telescopes.
If you want to take better photographs of the Milky Way you really need to get to a very dark site and use a tripod with a tracking head.
