It's a whisk, placed on white paper and lit from the left with a single studio flash fitted with barn-doors to give a very well-defined shadow. The shot is just of the shadow, not the whisk itself, which is out of shot to the left.

I like the idea. Thought about expanding on it and using a figure of a human to do the same "burnt into something" shadow effect? Would make a cracking themed shot for a nuclear blast aftermath theme.

Yes, I was thinking of other subjects to use. A human would be good!

Yes, I was a bit surprised at what looks like motion. The model light on the flash didn't really show that - just a well-defined shadow. But the actual shot shows motion, which actually works quite well. It may well just be the rough paper surface that used as a background.
