Hi all,

I have joined this forum on recommendation from a friend who says it is excellent!

I have owned a Pentax K100D for about 5 years now and have managed to take many great pictures (primarily of food) which i have amazed myself with!!

Several friends have asked me to take pictures of their kids which im happy to do, but other than pics of my own kids i have never really done this before.

I think i will need to upgrade from the lens i have (just the basic lens that came with the camera) and possibly a flash (other than the standard flash).

To be honest i dont know where to start with this so any advice would be great.

What are peoples feelings on the pentax as i note most peolple seem to have Canon's? I really cant afford a new camera at the moment.

really the principals of photography hold whatever camera you've got - so basically make sure you've got a clean background (Ie not one with lots of distracting bits), keep the apperture fairly wide to blur out the background with bokeh - focus on the eyes, and remember to smile and havbe fun - if you are happy the kids are far more likely to be happy too - which is good because fractious whining brats are a bitch to photograph.

also you dont say whether you are doing portraits or candids - the later is easier as you can grab shots of the kids playing and having fun - but remember the mantra 'head in clear space' when composing shots on the fly.
