can anyone answer an easy question for me,
does the nikon d200 have the compatibility to be triggered by infa red like the d40?

If you mean to trigger the shutter release then no, or not built in like it is on lower end models. However there is a kit that incorporates a receiver and a remote that is compatible, [I pressume the receiver plugs into the same socket on camera as the cable release] although I don't know too much about how well it works.
