a real silly question

I got a D50 Nikon with the kit lens of 28-55mm.

Now is this the silly question. Is the 28-55mm the focal length of 35mm equivalent ( i.e if I put it in a film SLR, will it be a 28-55 lens); or is it 28-55 on the digital camera ( and it will become a wide angle lens on a film SLR)

Lenses are always measured in relation to 35mm frame size. Even on camera with aps-c sized sensors.

Actually, lenses are always measured by their actual focal length. The type of camera sensor or film size does not change it.

The only thing which changes is the area of image which the sensor or film sees.

Steve.

Have a read of this , the focal length is always the same regardless of the body its attached to, its the field of view that changes
