Actuation count foolproof??

I'm looking to buy a S/H D3. Just wondered if the data relating to the actuation count could in any way be wrong? I once heard that doing a firmware upgrade can zero it?

I wouldn't say it was foolproof, but the D3's shutter is rated to something like 300,000 actuations, so unless it's been getting some serious abuse, it's not likely to be a problem.

I'd certainly use the actuations as a guide, and you should also be able to look at the firmware version as well, which may give you another indication

As far as I know the shutter actuations cannot be changed - but don't confuse that with image number which can be reset.

I was reading on a nikon forum that when some repairs are carried out by nikon that the shutter count is reset.
