Please can someone advise, my father in law has a Hoya 70-210mm lens originally purchased to fit a Yashika 35mm SLR. He now has a Samsung GX-1S, and would like to use the lens on this camera.

Can anybody advise which type of adaptor ring would be required.

I'm afraid to say that it's generally difficult or impossible to use lenses designed for other camera mounts. Your lens has a Contax-Yashica mount, and the Samsung has a Pentax KAF mount like your K100D.

This is for a variety of reasons, such as wrong or no electrical contacts, essential mechanical couplings, and lens-to-image plane distance - if an adaptor is useable, often the lens sits too far away from the camera and it's no longer possible to focus to infinity.

I may be wrong but I don't think it's possible. Sorry.

It's worth seeing if anyone has a Contax-to-K-mount adaptor, but if it exists, it probably won't allow the camera to focus on anything further than a short distance away. Mounting Pentax lenses on other cameras is easier, as the Pentax mount is short so there's more room for an adaptor.

Thanks SilverJon, We will endeavour to find a Contax-K mount. There are a couple of specialised shops in the Edinburgh area, where he can ask if such a thing exists.
