Last week I took my SX100IS with me to Budapest (hold baggage only) and wow, either I've got used to the 40D IQ quickly or this little compact is really showing it's age, now I know a compact is never going to rival a DSLR but blimey the wifes £50 Fuji takes better pictures.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 'throw in the bag' compact?

Budget up to £150, cheers :)

The panasonic TZ-25 is very highly rated and can be picked up for about £180 - search for reviews.

Alternatively, a little more gets you the Sony HX9V or the Sony HX20V

Cheers, the Panny's are looking good so I'll go have a look at the 25 too

Ive got a Lumix DMC-FX70. Its a great little camera and if it makes it any better its got a Leica lens. It was only £95.00

Here are a couple of pictures I took with it last year

Thanks Sarah and Mart, I really want a greater zoom though. I've just taken some shots with mine (10x optical) and the wifes (3x optical) just to test and it confirmed my thoughts.

Great pics from both of yours though (y)

I'm looking at a TZ25 for ~£175 after cashback.
If I wanted to spend more I would probably go >HX20V>S95/S100>RX1000
