Hey.
I've been asked to do a photography presentation to get on the course I want to do at college.
The tutor wants me to put my photographs onto a disk then speak about them in depth to four other tutors, then put some pictures into a photo album and bring some of my old art work in.
I'm new to the whole of photography so it would be really awesome if you guys could give me some tips on what to say that could possibly increase my chance of getting on the course and some words I could use to describe a photo.

Got to be done before this Friday, Please help me & thank you to those who do :)

Joss.

Hi Jocelyn (Joss?) and welcome to TP

I get that you are probably a bit overwhelmed by what you have been asked to do but you are kind of asking people to do the work for you here - we can't really offer any help with what to say about the photo's when we havn't seen them.

Few questions which might help:

What kind of course is it - level it is aimed at / content etc?
What is your level of experience?
What pictures / art work are you going to include?
Why do you want to go on the course - what are your long term plans re photography?

With presentations I think it is best to have a point that you are trying to aim towards - rather than just a show and tell. Have you worked on any specific projects before that could form the basis of your presentation?

They won't expect you to know everything (if you already did you wouldn't be going on the course), but I suspect they will be interested in how you approach your subject matter.

You could describe the composition & why you used the elements of the photograph in the way you did. What did you include? What did you leave out? Discuss the equipment you used (& why if possible) and any treatments you gave the photograph afterwards. You might also want to throw in what you would do differently if you had the opportunity.

Stay calm & relaxed. Just think of it as an excuse to talk about your favourite photographs in more detail than any of your friends would let you do!

I forgot to mention guys i'm on the course now! :) only just started it and I love it! :) x x

congratulations Joss, How did your presentation go? Obviously successfully, but how did it pan out ?

Thank you.
Well I'll be honest with you I got myself worked up into a state I'm just too shy/nervous when it comes to presentations.
So what they said to me was just to show them my photo album and explain to them why I took the photos I've took, basically what I would of done standing up doing a slide show but sitting down with them and having a conversation about the photos, they made me more comfortable in what I was doing. Tim, the head of the department saw the first few and said Your on the course, you have a definite eye on what to capture and have a lot of potential which was a confidence boost for sure. Been enjoying it so far! :)
