advice on filters

Hi peeps I need some advice on filters to protect my len's

I have a d60 with 18-55mm kit lens and 55-200mm f/4.-5.6 AFS DX VR Lens what filters should I get to protect these and where is the best place to get them

You don't need any.

Cheap 'protective' filters cause horrible flaring, loss of contrast and possible AF problems and are best avoided. If you really need to 'protect' your lens (although how much protection a 1mm thin piece of glass is supposed to provide seems a good question) then you should buy a good quality filter. But they ain't cheap. So you need to ask yourself if sticking an expensive filter in front of a cheap lens is a good idea.

Camera salesdroids will try to scare you into buying 'protective' filters - because they make huge margins on selling them. The profit on a B&W filter for either of your lenses is almost certainly more than the profit on the lenses themselves. Some people who have fallen for the hype will also try to persuade you that these things are 'needed'. Presumably they need to justify the money they've wasted on them

Use lens caps when you're not shooting and lens hoods when you are. That's all the protection you need.

very true..nevertheless if you want ''reassurance'' that you are protecting the front glass

have a look at Marumi DHG Protectors...not well known but excellent

the front element on my Sigma 17-70mm is very exposed, so I added a 72mm filter

I think your lenses are 52mm diam filter

the Marumi DHG Cirl PL is excellent value too

if you can afford it - the Hoya Pro-1 or the HD series is highly recommended by people here too
