I have a nikon d5600 and a altura flash. I want to get into macro, so i'm looking for a flash trigger that could go off camera & and also shutter. I was advised to look into a godox x1n ttl wireless flash trigger. With that being said, is there any flash trigger that's compatible with this setup. I will mainly be shooting flowers and insects. Your advise would be appreciated.

Ah ok. This one doesn't look like it has any kind of radio in it. There are 3 ways to fire it off the camera:-

Buy an "SC-28" cable. (well a clone anyway) for £15. This attaches to the camera's hot-shoe at one end at the foot of the flash unit at the other. This is simple, cheap and works well for macro where the flash unit is never far away from the camera. No batteries to buy. Here's an example - no idea on the quality tbh. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gadget-Career-Flash-Cable-Nikon/dp/B01MR2VTNO/

A radio trigger system. There are loads of these. You'll need a receiver unit that fits onto the foot of the flash, and a trigger that attaches to the camera's hot shoe. Here's the Godox items at £70 or so in total:-

Note the flash must be in set to "On" (none of the remote modes) and TTL even if you want to control the power manually from the trigger. TTL is the only mode in which Nikon compatible flashes accept commands through the hot-shoe to adjust power, and the flash thinks it is on the camera using these receivers. If you intyend to buy moer flashes, get this trigger system and buy more Godox flashes. They have the receivers built in and so don't need the receiver units, and you'll be able to control the power from camera using the same trigger. If you can stretch to it, buy the X-PRO1 trigger instead of the X1T. It's more expensive but easier to use with a much bigger display.

or just a very simple radio trigger. No remote control of power, trigger only for £13 :-

Receivers uses AAA's and the rigger uses a 12V 23A battery. These are cheap enough to buy though at £2.50 for 5 https://www.amazon.co.uk/GP-Super-Voltage-Alkaline-Battery-Chrome-Black-Red/dp/B000CSLIP6/

Or... Use your pop-up to trigger the remote flash. Turn the "slave cell" on (I think Altura call it the Wireless Trigger Sensor) on your flash and set it to "S1". On the camera, set the pop-up flash to manual, first curtain sync, and 1/128th power. The remote flash will fire when it sees the flash from the popup. Make sure ther sesnor on the front of the flash is pointing at the pop-up on the camera. If it doesn't work outside, increase the power of the pop-up £0.

Try the pop-up and see if that works for you. You may find it a bit of fight outside though especially in strong daylight. As the basic radios are about the same price as a cable, I'd probably go for that for now.

Thanks Phil, I have alot to look over your probably right about the cable thou
