AF Nikkor 50mm lens help

ok im probabaly going to sound like a numpty here so i do aplogise in advance.

Ive bought a Nikkor 50mm f1.8D from Jessops today and have just tried taking a few shots with it mounted on my D60. However, it wont let me take any pictures unless the aperture is locked off at f22 with the aperture lock button. As soon as i take the lock off and change the aperture i get an on screen message telling me to change back to f22 and lock it in??

Am i being a tad thickie here or do i need another componenet to make this lens work with my D60?

Aperure ring only works in manual mode with older cameras: with newer cameras you set the aperture on the body with the lens locked at f/22.

That's normal, it's the same with my 50mm F/1,4 D.

Just change the aperture on the camera.

Thanks guys, took me a while but worked it out after watching some youtube reviews of the lens.
