Im off to Duxford this weekend to the Spring airshow. Can anyone advise me on what settings and techniques to use to get 2 or 3 planes in focus at the same time ? For single aircraft I'll be using AI autofocus with a single point of focus but shots of motorsports tells me this wont work. Im taking a Canon 40D and a Canon 70 -300 IS

Single AF using one af spot will be fine because the planes will be a good distance away and depth of field issues will not be a major issue, that said check images at hi magnification as you shoot. Exposure wise, Apperture priority f8 perhaps and spot metering off the aircraft or exposure compensation will probably be needed, depending on the brightness of the sky, to prevent planes showing as silhouettes and show insignia.

I used to photograph the old Victor Bombers test flying at Radlett when I was a lad using the old Pentax S1a, sensationally beautiful plane.

All the best

I'm hoping the weather forecast improves otherwise it won't really matter which setting you use! :'(

Good advice from phototuition.

Thanks for the advice Phototuition :). The weather is forecast as sunny, so far, at least. I'll probably go anyway as I just like seeing the old warbirds fly. Its one of those places where you dont know whether to take photos or just watch and soak it up.

Mix it up, you'll only regret it. Too many times have I wished for my camera and it hasn't been there...
