Airshow/wildlife lens (nikon fit) suggestions

Hi,

I am saving for a lens for use as per the title, I have the D3100 and have been looking at the sigma 150-500 which is about as much money as I can really spend. Anyone able to offer any alternatives or offer feedback on this lens?

I bought one off here for a mate of mine and tried for a few days before giving it to him. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It was the OS HSM version, quite light and compact, seems a cheapish way to get to 500mm, though if you can find one and at a reasonable cost, the 300 F4 and 1.7tc is a good combo.

I also have the Nikon 300 f4 with a 1.4 TC which is very sharp, but you are limited to that focal length. I do intend getting the Sigma 50-500OS lens soon after I was able to borrow a 150-500OS lens which gave great results.

I use a Sigma 150-500mm with a D5000.

For the money you can't really go wrong. Obviously there's better out there but you do have to pay for it.

Thanks, I'd be very happy to get a shot as good as that so I think the lens will be better than my abilities!

I can't seem to find any alternative in the same price range and I am feeling that the lens is more than capable for my skills & needs, I've read as many reviews as poss so I understand its pros and cons. Was interested in seeing if anyone could suggest something that I hadn't seen.
