Yours are sharper than mine. I've been thinking about it and I think it's to do with how close you are.
If you're a couple of feet from someone doing 30mph you're going to have to pan round a fair bit using a slow shutter speed. Using 100mm+ like your first one, and standing further back, means there's less lateral movement for a given shutter speed. All that means is there should be a higher potential for a greater success rate. That's taking nothing away from these though, a good mx pan at 1/40th is rare
