Some of you may be aware there have been 'tinkerings' going on with the gallery software of late.
Well now is the time to come clean. We've been working on a brand new software installation for the Talk Photography Galleries, and today....it goes live.
The new address for the Talk Photography Galleries (for your bookmarks), is http://gallery.talkphotography.co.uk/
Our previous gallery software, Gallery2 (by menalto), has served us well in the past, but as with most other things at Talk Photography lately, our needs have outgrown what it can offer us, and it's time to move on.
We've been working tirelessly behind the scenes to get it ready to offer to you, the members as a complete and ready package.
We've been manually downloading the old galleries, image by image, album by album and reuploading them for you on the new gallery, ready for you, all in your own usernames. We've also included the previous competition galleries, complete with properly selected thumbnails and credit for the entrants and winners.
There are loads of new features that this gallery software offers, that Gallery2 didnt.
The main feature is that it now integrates with vbulletin properly.
So now your FREE members gallery is tied into your forums user account. No more need to contact the staff and request one, you automatically have one when you register.
Please note, we impose no minimum post count, level of forum activity, or any other such silly restrictions. As soon as your forum registration is complete, you can upload and make full use of your FREE gallery. NO need to jump through hoops to get one.
If you had a members gallery on the old server, then it has already been imported to the new one for you.
You'll notice that forum and site navigation has changed slightly...in that the items in the navigation bar you see along the top of every page has been jiggled around. The main functions for each part of the site have been put into dropdown menus. Most commonly used site links are now in the Forum menu, Gallery menu, or the Extras menu. If there are other links that you use all the time, that you would like included, then please let us know
All that's left to say is....thankyou for making Talk Photography the best photography site on the internet....We may not be the biggest. We may not have the most members, but we're by far the friendliest and the most member-driven. Not to mention we have the best members
We've always said this is YOUR site, not an ego extension of the staff.
To quote the infamous ford advert...everything we do is driven by you.
So if you have any suggestions, we have started a discussion about the gallery move here. Please join in and let us know what you think.
In the meantime you can access your gallery straight away by clicking on 'Gallery' on the menubar above, and selecting 'My Gallery'.
