Hello again

Following on from my thread asking if I should upgrade my canon 450 body I'm afraid I have another question!

I was talking to a friend about this and they have offered to swap my 450d body for their 550d body. Now I know the 550d is newer and has video (i think) etc but is this a good idea or am I better off sticking with my 450d? I don't want to just get wooed by the fact that the 550d is newer - is it actually better?

I know I can just compare the specs but I would rather get an informed opinion on it to be honest so I hope someone would be able to give me some advice.

Swap?....for free? well unless his is broken or something then it will definitely be an upgrade.
 
Yes for free.
They're a very close friend and they've been through a difficult time which I helped with. They're not that into photography and the 550d was a gift. They know how keen I am and are just trying to be nice - nothing sinister :)

So you reckon it will be a definite improvement in terms of photo quality etc?

Yep, and it add's video which you might find interesting, even just to play with depth of field effects. That is very kind of them!
 
Thats is extremely good of them, I would swap, it is most certainly an improvement on you 450D. :)
 
The ISO performance is supposed to be a belter on the 550, and it has video. I think we're getting to the point where the consumer level 'd' bodies can't be sneezed at anymore so I would definitely go ahead with it if your friend wants to.

I think I'll go ahead and swap. It will be a little while until I actually get it as she lives quite far away and is going away soon but I don't mind waiting. A massive bunch of flowers will be winging it's way to her!

In the meantime I've bought myself the digital field guide for my 450d and booked on to a local one day course to learn more so I can get the most out of the modes that aren't auto or P! So by the time I get the 550d I should be raring to go :)
