I have just purchased a Canon EF 35/f2 lens, and noticed that it had a date code on the bottom. Very unusual I thought for a non-L.
Anyway, it's UA0507, meaning May 2012, s/n is 321xxx
My 18-135 EF-s does not have a date code, but s/n is 7542539xxx, Purchased May 2011.
I wondered if there was a database of EF-S ageing information, or if anyone would be willing to contribute information to one (either fully public or within TP). Of course, retaining some of the last digits of your s/n is to be recommended (apparently - although not sure why!).
