I'm thinking of trying a bit of wildlife this year, and would like your thoughts on the nikon 1.7 or 1.4 teleconverters. As funds are limited, they would be used with a 70-200 af-s. I know a long prime would be preferred, but as I stated, funds are limited and for £250 ish, at least it might give me some idea if i want to persue the wildlife thing.

TIA

First thing to do is to check the compatibility of these TC's with your lens.
They cannot be used with all lenses and in some cases damage can occur.

I have the 1.4 and use it with a prime lens. The results are good.
TC's have a bad name but those from Nikon appear to be rather good.

I am sure others will comment on the 1.7.

I recently got the TC-20EII and checked the document that came with it and it appears it's the same document for all three TC's. If it's the 70-200 AF S f2.8 then it should do, I used mine on my 70-200 and it was ok. There was a compatibility spreadsheet on the Nikon website, but it’s so large that tracing what fits with what can be difficult.
