I've been offered a 2005 Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS lens at what i think is a good price but i was wondering if other than age there were any differences between this and a new lens? Has there been any improvements made to the optics or IS system that would make this an inferior lens to a 1 year old one for instance? Would there be any reason to spend £100 more on a newer one if both lenses were in excellent condition?

Sorry for all the questions, it's a lot of money for me and i want to know i'm making the right choice :)

While there will be no difference between that lens and a new one, if it is only £100 less than buying a new one then it is not a good price.

Sorry, i didn't mean a NEW lens i meant a newer one. It's £100 cheaper than i've seen 2007/08 ones go for

In which case - no difference. Go for it!
