Well it's time to trade in my rf602 poverty wizards and invest in decent triggers, but before I spend a shed load on 4 pocket wizards, are there any real alternatives? Ie. The elinchrom skyports?

I shall be triggering my bowens gemini's, lencarta safaris and sb900's... Oh and I couldn't care less about ttl as I only shoot fully manual

Many thanks :)

What will the PW do that the RF-602 will not?

Overall I think the RF-602 is actually better than the PW PlusII, as well as much cheaper, though there are some differences. Main ones are a gain of 1/3rd stop of x-sync speed (you'll get a full 1/250sec up from 1/200sec on a D700, I would guess), a bit more range (if 100m isn't enough) and the PW can keep up with your max frame rate (even if the flash cannot).

You'll lose the flash wake-up facility that I find very useful on the RF-602.

I sold my PWs.

I was going to suggest RF602's! They're really good compared to some of the Ebay junk thats about! What're you looking for that they don't currently do/do well ?

I get loads of misfires on my rf's and I also have to keep re adjusting the sync cable in the lencartas as sometimes it just stops firing altogether. I need the peace of mind that my triggers will fire all the time and every time. If I am shooting for me, then rf's are fine, but shooting professionally sometimes I don't have time to fix my rf's when I only have minutes of a CEO's time to get that headshot :(

Get in touch with Simon Revill, Spxxx, he has first hand experience with them.

It's sounds like dodgy cables. Replace them all rather than fiddle around. FITP has them for a just a few punds.

If it's some kind of RF interference issue, you should try and identify that, eg other radio devices in the vicinity. Might just be your pace-maker or something!

Be aware that most radio triggers operate on 2.4GHz like the RF-602, but PWs are different, and Radio Poppers are different again. There's another relevant thread in the Lighting section on frequencies here, post #89 http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=238119&page=3
