Any way of mounting a camera...

I know some tripods come with heads that turn 90degrees to the side to allow for portrait shots. As you are asking I am guessing yours doesn't. Though looking at a picture on the net it looks like it has the little thing you un-screw to turn the head to the side, so maybe I am getting the wrong end of the stick.
 
You can unscrew the top of the head and rotate it 90° on that tripod, I've seen them before. I wouldn't trust it with a heavy body/lens, though; it's flimsy enough as it is, and even flimsier in a portrait orientation.
 
Do you mean to take the shot in portrait orientation, or pointing right down at the ground?
 
Mount a ball and socket head onto your existing head? I do that with my monopod, using the b&s from my tripod.
