No
I love this event so much, enough to break my 'no sports' rule for :D.

This will be my third year on the trot... Anyone else there?

oh, and have a conversation with Mr. Mouse if you ever get the chance - absolute nutter.

Just had a quick look at the web, my heart was racing just reading that...... Im busy that weekend and im gutted :shake:

Don't know what the score with non-accredited photographers is, my client sorts all that for me :(

Just saw one bit of their site saying 'unauthorised photographers with professional equipment will be escorted off site via a pool'... =/ Always seen loads around though...

ah bad times, yeah, wouldn't want to do TG with anything wrong whatsoever, it's pretty brutal...

I contacted them in September 2010 and this is the response I received:

"I turned away around 800 photographers last year from clubs and the new digital photo art society.

I therefore have devised a planned system for the few places which I have available.

Attached are the rules.

Issued on a first come first served basis."

Here are the 'rules'

The photographer agrees the following:-

1) Insurance Fully comprehensive insurance to cover yourself and third party. Need to produce Certificate of Insurance 1 month prior to the event.

2) Submits current credit card details with express permission that the number can be retained.

3) Agrees to pay £25 to £100 for permit with £500 deposit to be returned to card on the following submission. See below chart of images.

4) Agrees to deposit that current credit/debit card with our office registration.

5) Agrees at the end of the day to deliver camera chip with all images to burn into our computer with all images.

6) To disclaim ownership of the photographs taken and that the ownership of all images belong to Tough Guy™ Limited.

7) Not to attempt to sell any images without FIRST consulting HQ.

8) On complying with all of the above, the credit card will be reimbursed less the appropriate charge and returned to the photographer.

9) Images taken and deposited to HQ
300 plus images – pay £25
250 plus images – pay £50
300 plus images – pay £70
150 plus images – pay £80
100 plus images – pay £90
50 plus images – pay £100

Good luck guys and girls!

Wow with those terms I can see people jumping at the chance of shooting at this event.

I kindly refused the offer too... :)

I'm certainly not paying for the privilege and handing over copyright of my images, however good or bad they come out.

Holy crap that's insane! I'm sure that everyone will just ignore it as ever and just come as a normal spectator.

I'm shooting commercially for a very large team and maybe some agency distribution too, my access is all sorted.

Last year, there were *ridiculous* numbers of unaccredited photographers all over the place, lining the sides and at some points, coming onto the course even! At one point, me and a press photog looked up from what we were shooting (safely, but within the actual course itself) and saw 6 people standing behind us fumbling with their cameras, genuinely getting in the way of the competitors. I'll try and dig out a picture, but it was like the local camera club had jumped the fence to shoot over our shoulders...

The official line has always been 'unaccredited people using professional equipment will be escorted off site via a pond...' I guess that the hordes of people were just getting to be too much of a distraction and a danger to the participants :/ Those rules are quite simply ridiculous though.

Thats amazing... I have just read those rules with my bottom jaw resting on the floor!

Do they seriously expect anyone to do this?

Nope...

I kindly refused the offer too...

I'd venture that this was the exact response that they were hoping for...

I went along last year to see a mate compete and from the spectator areas I got some great shots,in fact after I posted some on Flickr one of the official photographers contacted me to complement me on the shots.

So why would anyone comply with those ludicrous rules just to get a bit closer to the action and are they saying spectators with "Professional" kit will be thrown out and if so what constitutes professional .

It's obviously become a very busy event which is great, but not so good if like me, you'd like to photograph this for the first time. :(

At least the new rules will stop some of the club competition photos I keep seeing. They're driving me nuts! :)

yep, definitely possible from the sidelines, I don't need to go onto the course much at all *really*.

I'd wonder if they were trying to suggest these rules even for people from the sidelines o_0 If so, you're already paying for supporter admission...

If you see me about, say hi... I'll be dressed in all black, I look about 16 (!), shooting nikon, no camera bag but a lens pouch and a radio on a belt and a 300mm on my shoulder.

If you can get a photo of me, something like this, I'll love you forever: ;) :D

I was going to attend this (I have a friend competing and he has asked me to do some pics for his personal use) and cant find anything on the web site about any restrictions?

Hi Jim,

I emailed the organizers and that's what they sent me. It could be a ruse to put people off but I suspect that most will turn up on the day with their cameras anyway.

Hopefully it is just a ruse! I don't want to lug all my stuff up and get booted out though! I'll email them as well and see if i get the same reply...

I've worked for Mr mouse on this event 6 times i must say its a really fantastic event if you have never been before this is what you have missed: -

I was asked to attend but i cant this year, I can understand why MR mouse does not want lots of photographers there (and sorry if i upset anyone but) a lot of the amateur photographers there are a real pain in the butt. It is not public land and if Mr mouse does not want you there then he can chuck you out... and will.

It is a very dangerous event and lots of people go to hospital every single year. If anyone is going to go to take photos please respect the fact that competitors have paid a lot of money to do the event so keep the correct side of the tape and keep out of their way.(y)

I'd imagine they wouldn't charge any of the genuine photographers who are servicing both commercial and editorial clients, and that its just to put off amateurs who would be getting in the way

Yup, exactly this. If they did, none would cover it and they'd get no publicity. Simple. The whole operation is very switched on to the press and the needs of the press, and is a very visual thing, and always receives significant press coverage.

Ah bad times, yeah, I'd seen that you'd posted on here before. Were you part of the couple that are always there in a high vis bib saying 'Private Camera', by any chance?

Totally agree with what you said about the people there taking pictures for fun getting in the way and frankly acting dangerously :(

Maybe see you next year (y)

I did!! Bit it was obvious its the same bulk email they send out to everyone and no one had actually read the content of my email. However I have been given the name of an individual from a competitor to contact who apparently says it's ok if you are there to support a competitor (which I am) I will email them personally to clarify.

Damn, I need the name of a competitor! :)

Ok, I've been told I'm allowed to take photos of my mate whos competing, but I can't take photos of any other competitors without their permission...

Looks like I'll be tightening the framing!

Lol trust me I won't!

Press Association Images also had the same T&C's - we politely declined these laughable terms and I'd suggest anyone else who doesn't want to hand over all rights to their images does the same.

seriously? jesus... I thought they were more switched on than that...lol ugh, better double check with my client, ugh

Hope that anyone who did go had a good time.

I had a micro video camera strapped to the side of my flash for some extreme behind the scenes video... take a look!
