Yes
i'm starting to lust after this lens a bit. Looking at a lot of wedding threads and there's just something special about wider angle shots with a prime and nice wide aperture. I think 28mm is quite a nice length as well...it's wide but not 'silly wide'.

Reviews seem favourable but i'm slightly put off by the price which is in the region of £600

any thoughts?

Fast wides are never going to be cheap - £600 is a good price for what it offers. Of course, the only AF alternatives are £1600 (24 1.4) or £2300 (28 1.4)

looks to be a very nice lens, with the backup of Nikon build and engineering [ex-Sigma owner here, plagued by two copies with terrible focus issues].

On DX, I personally think it's going to have a hard time justifying £450 over the excellent 35/1.8 when all it takes is a step backward or two to get the same effect [within reason, of course, before the angle-of-view police head on over here..]. Still, there's a market for this alright, especially on full frame where it's a nice fast wide for less than the big money lenses. You have a D700 - it's this or the 35/2, I guess. On DX, I'd love to see a 24/1.8 and even a 16/1.8 for the 24 and 35 equivalents - don't think either of those likely, though.

Sigma also does a range of wide primes,
20 1.8, 24 1.8 and 28 1.8. Also a dx 30 1.4
As mentioned above, compared to the Nikon 24 1.4 £ 28 1.4, the 28 1.8 should be a great option...
