Only came across these yesterday.

Okay they have amazing MP ability, but £18.5k for the H3DII. Does anyone know what is the cost of these are to make approx as I would be interested to know if the £18.5k is like what B&O is in the audio/vision world expensive but also achieveable with other marques just without the style?

Is the price justified?

:)

their latest uses the 50Mp Kodak sensor, and lists at £25k !!

i think at these prices they tend to be bought by only the rich n famous of the togs, or by outlets that specialise in hiring out.

Worth it ? - i doubt it, but those that have used them in specific circumstances will no doubt argue their case.

i would'nt compare to B&O, Hasselblad may be mega money, but it is high quality equipment
B&O is just life style kit, looks pretty, sounds *****

hasselblad is usually used by mainstream pros, for studio and landscape work.

its the sort of stuff you see blown up in huge posters, only a 50mp camera can produce results like that!.

my grandad left behnind a film hassleblad but my uncle got that... grrrr

Or Medium format film

I own some 'Blad kit, although before you get too excited I certainly don't own any digital backs and would find it impossible to justify their cost.

Whilst there is no doubt that optics are superb and that the build quality is outstanding, it has to be said that for most purposes there is little to choose between it and the equivalent from Bronica and Mamiya.

The kit that I own was purchased many years ago when I took photographs for a living and paid for itself many times over with weddings and portraiture. It is heavy and cumbersome, and for that reason rarely gets an outing nowadays (although the day I sell it Satan will be skating to work).

The conclusion of the kenrockwell link is spot on as far as I can see - the MF kit is unsurpassed in the studio but lacks flexibility, speed and ease of use once you go out of the studio doors compared to the latest smaller format alternative.
