99% this one with the gimbal head, looked at Gitzos, I really like Ians when I saw it, but the cost is too much for me to stand.

I`ll put the 475B and 393 head with plates up for sale when they arrive.

I have this tripod from this same supplier. It is excellent and very stable. I bought it with the centre column just in case I needed the extra height sometime but use it with the big lens on the Benro gimbal head, I am very pleased with the combination.

Ade, I think you will be more than pleased with this choice of tripod.

Sounds sweet

Can I ask what you think of the centre column? Nice action? Is it heavy? How much was it?

Hoppy,

Apologies for not replying as I have only just seen your comment on the thread Duh!

The centre column is a beautiful engineered piece of kit. The tube is aluminium, no CF which makes it fairly heavy. I have put my geared Manfrotto head and levelling base which makes a very heavy and stable base for landscape work.

The mechanism is precise and as an engineer I appreciate this level of quality, there is little play in the moving parts and everything moves with precision. The folding handle is a very nifty piece of design to enable it to fit through the large hole in the spider.

All in all I am extremely pleased with the centre column, my only reservation being the weight.

It is almost worth buying it for the quality of the design.

Cheers,

Paul.

Well nice Ade  Better than a RedSnapper ;)

That's good to hear. I'm not surprised by the weight, I guess you need it for a centre column of that calibre as it's hard to cut precicion grears in carbon fibre! I do like the sound of the cool engineering :)

Ade you can't blame me for this one.

Looks like nice kit let me know how you get on with it especially the gimbal head.
