Anyone had a lens seviced?

Looked at his computer and said "it's not on the list and gave me a place in Wembley that might do it" http://www.eurohitech.com/camera-repairs.asp

The offer is still open to ring our repair guy, he does the repairs for the shop & for Stephens Leica shop in Manchester so I'd probably trust him more than a company that clearly specialise in digital equip like the guys on the link :D

It's got to worth a go Brian, or I'll give you what you paid for it and i'll actually go and buy a Canon camera to put it on, that kind of quirkiness appeals to my photographic senses. Lenses that are sharp with good colour rendition are 10 a penny :D

Hey there Nick I've got a few more rubbish lenses you might want to give me what I paid for them, too? :exit:

If you've got some interesting lenses you paid a tenner for then I'd definitely be interested.

Thanks Tom please go ahead and phone him...if my lens gives the same results as the guy's 19mm on his A7r (y), I'll use it quite a lot especially indoors as my T90 flashgun although set for 24mm seems to cover 19mm h'mm well only tested it with light bouncing off the walls in a room.

Indeed you are right Nick it's worth a go, but we differ in that I'm really interested in lenses (not bodies) that are at least sharp and all unsharp ones go in a box or charity shop...if I want special effects would just use a Cokin like the diffused ones with a hole in the centre or the cheap way is to smear vaseline over a filter.

Anyone else remember the ads in the back of 1990s Practical Photography mags (other photo mags were available) for keyhole cut-out filters for those sexy boudoir shots? :D

Thanks Tom...what do you think? The lens has been proved to give very good results, and I can't see any damaged elements so it probably needs an element turned around or the lens re-aligned\adjusted using a machine and tested to see if the problem is solved. John's reply is still in my head when he sent his Nikon lens to Nikon and it came back the same.

I'd personally give it a go, if he can't do anything with it he doesn't charge so it can't hurt to try.

Ok Tom........ do you want to post his address here on in my inbox and would it help you if I mention your name?

He collects & picks up regularly from us if you want to post it to the shop:
West Yorkshire Cameras, Unit 19, The Corn Exchange, Call Lane, LS1 7BR.

OK I'll find a suitable box and post it recorded Monday shall I put "To Tom" ? Also if you have an A7 with a FL\FD adapter in your shop you can play with it to see what you think.
And thanks again.

Hi Tom Shall I include the caps? the back one is no problem but the front one is massive and would think getting a replacement with "Canon" stamped on it would be difficult...if lost.

Just an update on the lens which could be of interest for anyone using a Canon FL lens. Well the Canon T70 isn't very happy metering with it, my AV1 has no problem, my A1 wont except it being mounted (can't see why not) and no problem with the T90.... but I was thinking the T70 is shutter priority, the AV1 is aperture priority, and the T90 was set on shutter priority...confused? Well I'm going to test the lens once more on the T90 set for aperture priority with the aperture set the same as manual stop down on the lens..both tests on the lens auto and manual.
There is a remote chance the T90 (on shutter priority) was choosing it's own aperture (which could have been say F4) rather than what I set on the lens.......a long shot but worth trying.

Well kindof, it went for a rear element replacement, so no it didn't come back the same, as part of the service it gets a cla and calibration.

The point I was making is although its an expensive quality lens, its a WA, and as such is subject to design "features", or flaws depending on whether you are buying or selling..lol
So the lens is as good as new, when it was brand new it had flaws, a cla and calibration was never gonna fix the flaws, because that is just how the lens is.

You are comparing your lens with on line reviews, after seeing your test shots I have to agree, there looks to be a lot of room for improvement, for it to return from a good going over by lens experts no better than when it left, seems unlikely.

Well if Tom's guy says there is nothing wrong with the element assembly and charges nothing, I shall be very sad as the lens is a lemon...If his fixes the lens I shall also be sad at spending £70-£80 ;)

Missed this sorry - sending it without caps would be best, we can always put some straight on when it arrives to protect it while we're waiting for him to pick up.

Thanks Tom..I'll wait till after Xmas and might even have a go dismantling myself as now I'm retired, all money spent has to come out of the one of the worst state pension in the western world or my savings.

H'mm I think I'm having a senior moment  ..... When testing this lens if you look at the previous shots the central portion spread is sharp, but when I turned the camera for a vertical shot it's the same i.e. only the central portion spread is sharp...and I can't think of an optical reason why this should be so.

Vertical shot note the LH house is not sharp:-

Hi Tom
I'm still thinking about getting my 19mm lens fixed and even more when we took our two grandchildren recently up to a £5.99 carvery and after drinks and pudding got a bill of £45, so what the heck it's only money.
Your guy seems an expert on lenses and my lens is either de-centred or a element is in the wrong way around and also said if he can't fix then no charge.
So is it still OK to post to you?
Thanks

Looking through my shots, I used a program for this result with a 24mm Ensinor....well the Canon as it is could be used for something similar, mind you it would only work in the vertical position.
