Yes
After using one of these at university i have decided to purchase one. Just wondered if anyone else on here has one and what they think of it. I'm still going to keep my Haselblad 503CW but this is a bit more manageable for walking about.

Think Joxby uses a Mamiya 6 which I think is a very very similar camera but 6x6 format instead of 6x7.

They have a very good reputation and I know in film days they were one of very few cameras that could be used on Golf courses because they were so quite.

My main outfit for many years comprised of 2 Mamiya 7II bodies with 50mm, 65mm, 80mm and 150mm lenses. They are an absolute joy to use and the results are simply stunning, better than any other medium format system I've used. Great for travel photography.

If I had the money now, I'd have a Mamiya 7 kit like a shot.

What's this film days nonesense? It's still around!

I wish I could afford a Mamiya 7. It looks like it could be my ideal camera but I will (probably) never know!

 Yes I know sorry

What I meant was when it was used more in the commercial world or for catching that shot as the Golfer Tees off.

An American chap (forget the name) used to use them in the mid 1980's on the major golf tournaments.

I think Mamiya 6 partially folds; in that the lens goes in part way; while Six is the old type folding camera

To quote KR

All three lenses collapse about 1.5" into the camera body, making a very compact camera. ( Mamiya 6)

wow...lovely. Will have to wait for a few years; and then buy a used one. ( Price should be down to a few hundred £ by then)

I love what Cosina is doing with the Voigtlander range.

Come to think of that, why not a folder 35 mm camera with a lovely zeiss lens once again.

BTW, is there any technical reason why interchangeable lens cant be had on a folding bellow type body

It's not impossible but there are a couple of challenges:

1. The lens placement is different depending on the focal length. The centre of the lens needs to be more or less the focal length away from the film.

2. The viewfinder needs to change depending on field of view.

Obviously a single focal length version is much easier to design and manufacture.

Now a dedicated wide angle version would be nice!

Steve , thanks.

All the issues you mention is true for any camera; why cant it be done on a folder, if it can be done on a rigid body? At least the contaflex design ( one lens element detachable, the rest fixed). I think it can be done; its merely a matter of demand.

Doesn't look like much, but it goes in a bag much easier.

all these camporn on M6 has got me charged up. Lets see if I can raise some cash for one in the next couple of months...

Whats the price range for one with a 80 mm lens?

I did have a thread joxby but I'm assuming it got nukes despite the fact that there are no completed listings or realistically priced mamiya 6 for sale anywhere, but that seems to be the way the forum is going. A realistic price for the 6 and it's lenses is almost impossible to work out, sales are so few and far between

I think the 6 is better than the 7 for me as the meter is more useful, it's more compact and square format. The shutter is whisper quiet, it takes a standard cable release (nice and cheap) and is just all round great.

Its a 75, we've just done this, wthell did the thread go..??

If your lucky, maybe you can pick one up for £500 ish body & 75, seem em go cheaper but mostly they're expensive...

Chris...still any ball park idea of the cost? I am trying to raise some cash for it

Edit: ah..thanks Joxby..for 500 quids...I'll get it. Any idea of a possible source?

The only place you might get lucky is you know where..everywhere else is market value, which varies, £500 is very cheap comparatively...

But, Joxby, thats one place I wish to avoid.

Are there shops which are reasonably priced and I can keep an eye out for....

Or maybe, just maybe, you can loan me yours. ...with my left kidney as a collateral, of course...lol

There are a few full kits on eBay ATM for about $2k, it would be a good price if no vat or duty. Realistically I reckon at the moment if you're in no rush to sell and it's all good condition a complete outfit is about £2-2.5k which is crazy. The only dealer bits I have seen recently are 150s for £350, a 50mm for £500 (a reasonable price actually) and the 35mm kit for about £90, there's just nothing out there. For 500 I'd bite your hand off, and I'm not on the market for one

Only because the bellows would need to fold out to a different position for each focal length used.

Steve.

That's a shock. They were great. I have just tried their website and it doesn't exist any more.

Steve

Yeah about a week or more ago there was a thread saying they had gone, I can't find it at the moment.
