Anyone know how to date Nikon camera bodies by serial number?

A quick Google trawl around the Internet (and the search function here) revealed nothing, but can anyone tell me if there is Nikon camera serial number database anywhere ?

I know that there is one for lenses, but I'm trying to date a recently acquired F100, which had a 5 or 6 year production span, I believe. Serial number is (give or take ;)): 2323300 , if that helps .

I have one with the serial 22750xx and bought this in May 2004. I can't say how long it was in the shop though (Jessops)

Well, assuming that the serial numbers are sequential, that's very encouraging news :). Thanks!

I know that the age of the camera won't be as significant as how it has been treated during its lifetime, but it's still interesting to know ;).

I think Nikonians had one.

Sounds like a later serial number and it is later than 21654XX so should have the new rewind fork.

Yippie, thanks! I was a bit worried by what I'd read about the old forks, so that's a relief :).
