Hi,

just thinking about selling my Canon 400mm F5.6L in favour of a Canon 300mm F4L IS as I really need the IS for handheld shots. But don't want to sell the 400 as it's a good sharp copy and then find out the 300 isn't as good, so I was wondering if anyone in Fife or nearby on here have one I could try out for comparison, I know I could hire one from Stewart but that just adds to the expense of buying one ;)

Thanks,

Mike.

Hi,

I can get plenty sample images from POTN and elsewhere on 'internet, I was really after a 'hands on' test to see how it handles and how good the IS is etc.

Is Hamilton too far :)

I'm not sure there will be a huge difference in sharpness between the 300 and 400 but pur a 1.4x on the 300 and your 400 will be better

Hi JD and Willie,

many thanks for the offers guys but I have managed to get a loan of one for a few weeks to try it out.

Used to own a 100-400L IS so I know what the IS is all about, just hoping the IS on the 300mm F4 is as good if not better ;)

Thanks again,

Mike.

I think the 300 has the old IS system good for 2 stops (3 at a push) - I think this is the same as the 100-400.

Works well and is very sharp.
