I asked a short while back about the Nissin Di622 Mark 2 (comparability issues with my old Di622 Mark 1 and my D600) and one person said they used the Nissin Di866 and it was great.

Anyone else have any experience of using the Nissin Di866 ?

I was initially thinking of going for the Di622 Mark 2 but then thought maybe I would go for the Di866

Am I daft to go for the Di866 over the Di622 at around £100 more expensive ?

The Di866 Mark I was the first flash I got around 2 years ago. It was a top of the range flash back then and I still use it regularly now. I got a Di622 for the wife and when she upgraded cameras she had compatability problems. I sold the Di622 and bought another Di866, but this time a MkII, and gave the original Di866 to the wife. The Di866 MkI still works perfectly with my 5D MkIII and the wifes 650D, which were both released after the flash, and there is a firmware upgrade jack on the Di866 so you can upgrade the firmware yourself if neccessary. Great flash, either of them should work with your D600 but if you can afford the MkII that would be best.

I often nick it though when I want some multiple lighting shots and use my Canon 580EX II as master and set the Nissin's up as wireless slaves. They make a great setup together.

Thank you both for the feedback so you would say the Di866 over the Di622 ?

Its just when I see the £100 difference and get to thinking am I spending more just for the sake of of it. BUT on the other hand apart from the extra features I have been forced into changing flashes so I may as well get something that at least looks different than my old model
