Are the cheaper battery grips any good for the 40d from ebay ? they are half the price of the Canon ones .

I've just bought one, and I'm genuinely surprised with the quality of it! I bought it off here for £30, expecting it to be very plasticy and a bit delicate, but it feels really well made, and very sturdy. I couldn't compare how it feels to the genuine canon one, but it feels just as well made as the body itself, so I doubt it's much worse! In fact, I actually prefer the textured grippy bits on the 3rd party grip to on the camera, they feel better quality!

It's one by 'Linkdelight', who have a website and sell through ebay I think. I haven't really used it get, but I'm very impressed so far!

The one I have is also a "linkdelight"- the only slight issue is the on/off switch is more recessed than the original canon one. Having said that, its not really a big issue for a large saving :)

ive got a phottix (or something like that) grip for my D700 and it feels a bit plasticy and rocks about a little but seems to work ok.

I have an Opteka grip on my 50D, works fine but it doesn't have an anchor point for the hand-strap like the original does, so I can't use the strap, which I liked on my 10D.

got a chinese one on my 5D2. no idea what the canon one is like but I can't see it being 3x better

Thats the thing , we get brainwashed into thinking its not Canon so it must be cheap rubbish which is not always the case . Thats why i asked

I got mine today, so I've been playing with it, I've just taken it off and I don't know how I survived before :D

It's a small camera (450D), and it just feels SO unstable without the grip on, especially with a flash attached! It's horrible! Strange, as I was using it yesterday thinking it was fine, and now I can't see myself taking the grip off again!

The one I bought for the D700 was only £58 including a battery. A bargain!! Very pleased with it
