Argos Any Good?

Just wondering if Argos are any good for cameras?
Their prices are good but just wondering if their customer service is any good if you have a problem?

I have never bought a camera from Argos
( have you looked at their clearance shop on fleabay?)
But I did have cause to return something faulty awhile back with no problems

Are their prices that good? I've always found other places to be cheaper for the big stuff. I've had no problems with memory cards and stuff though when needed in an emergency.

Hi, dont know how they deal with cameras but a mate of mine bought a TV from them which gave a lot of trouble, they gave him a voucher to the value of it, but this was only valid for Argos.

They are pretty good with returns just make sure you keep all packaging/receipts etc and you'll have no problem, bought a Fuji last year and lens kept sticking took it back after 4 months and they just gave me another no hastle

I bought my body from there Sony A350, had it 2months and the command dial stopped working.

I took it back to argos and they happily helped me, but had to send the camera off to Sony for repairs, it was away for 3weeks but as soon as it came back to store I was giving a phone call to say it was ready.

But I notice that the 75-300 lens is more expensive in argos than places like jessops, warehouseexpress etc

It's the same as anywhere pricewise IMO... I bought my D90 from there a few weeks ago... but many other camera type items are more expensive than some of the specialist shops. I've never had a problem taking stuff back if it's been faulty, replaced / refunded without much hassle. Obviously no chance of building up a relationship or getting good advise, which is where the Local Camera Shop scores... you pays yer money, you makes yer choice.

Oh, when I bought my camera I was expressly advised several times that it was non-returnable unless faulty, which I understood as meaning 'if you don't like it - tough!':rules:

I think its like that with just about everything you buy for argos now.

I've used them a fair bit of late although not for cameras and I haven't had any probs. My daughter recently bought a pos from them though. You can enjoy a discount when using this.

If you'r ok with your product price-wise you can go for it ... their customer service is pretty good and never had any problem as I still buy lot many things from them

I've had no problems with returns of faulty electronic equipment but as Claymore says, keep the packaging & receipts and there is no quibble. I bought a cinema surround sound which packed up nearly 12 months after purchase, and yes, I got equal value in vouchers to spend at Argos but on this occassion the price of better models had dropped signficantly and I walked out with a really good system :p

iPods, mobiles, cameras, video games and most vacuum cleaners get returned for repair unless a fualt developes within the first 30 days in which case you get a straight swap.

If something cannot be repaired Argos will give you a brand new item, if the item is not available or you wish to buy something else you are given a gift card for the original sale price.

If a Sony TV fails Argos aren't going to give you the cash back to buy a new TV from elsewhere, they are a retailer not a manufacturer so will want you to buy your replacement from them too!

They certainly have the cheapest prices for Canon ink cartriges.... It's the only place I buy them now:clap:

they would seem to be getting into the camera/lens business a lot more now, although most of the stuff is internet only, meaning you cant pick it up from the store.

My Dad bought a barbeque from there, was sold as new.
When he got home and got it out to use there was bits of food all on the grill plate - had clearly been used by someone, not even cleaned, boxed back up and returned.
Argos didn't even check it!

I bought my alpha from Argos and it's been spot on. If you do buy anything make sure you keep the reciept (obviously!) as if you go instore they won't take your details and keep them on file (for warrenty purposes) like some camera shops would.

I've found Argos to be very good at the moment on camera prices. They were definitely the cheapest at the time, when I bought my Alpha.........

they don't know anything about cameras.

Nor do plenty of camera shops!!

Chris already knows what camera he wants, he doesn't need to handle the camera or find out about specs etc. Although the particular camera he's after is very expensive from Argos at the moment, when comparred to other retailers.

If you see any thing for sale in their on line clearance site on ebay, the prices can be exceptionally good.
I bough a brand new 430Ex flash for just £105.
I also bought some expensive radio earphones that were faulty, and they changed them by return.
They are too big and well organized to mess you around.

There normal outlets are not usually the cheapest but they have good customer service and are very convenient.

ok so if you buy your camera from argos you will still get your nikon in box warranty all the same? i am assuming this is no different than buying it from a camera shop.

I am picking up my new camera tommorrow from argos, a step back from what my last camera was but same make (nikon) which i am comfortable navigating, but its what i can afford, plus people have chipped in as its my birthday very soon and i sorely miss owning a dslr. :woot:
