I have a sapphire 5770 1gb DDR5 card and an Asus EAH 4850 1GB DDR3.

The sapphire is in the PC now but can I add the Asus and use them together and if I can will it slow down to the slower card or improve performance?

if one of the cards would have lets say 512MB you would be able to use 512 of cards memory.

Xfire scales pretty good :)
Im using 2x5770 and am happy with them and to be soon replaced(maybe this week) 6970 :)
 
You Can't Crossfire cards from different series, unfortunately there not compatible.

The 5770's are cheap I believe, if you could get another one I'd suggest it. However it wont make much difference if all you do is editing. Duel cards are more useful if your rendering or gaming.

Thanks guys, yeah I saw the sale for a couple of sapphire cards, trouble is they are a little expensive still.
 
You need two cards from the same series eg HD57xx or HD58xx

Say you have a HD5850 and you buy a HD5830 to setup CrossfireX, the HD5850 will be slowed down to match the 5830.

I have 2xHD5870s in CF and things do run faster, but you are relying on ATI/AMD to produce crossfire profile for applications - an application without a CrossfireX profile could potentially run slower with 2 cards than it does with one card.
