Now before I post the colour shot can I please have some opinions on this as a black & white.

This was a family wedding I attended a couple of weeks back as a guest and took a few snaps to give as a thank you for a good day out.
 
for me this looks a bit harsh for a child's photo, although the B&W is good I can't help but feel that the colour version would be kinder? The colours are obviously already dark. Nice shot!
 
Think it could work well as B&W, but in its current form I agree with Marianne, in that it seems alittle abrupt, think the tones need softening a little, there just seems a bit plain at the moment, maybe its the composition.
 
Thanks guys, I kinda agree with you about the harshness. I was looking for a tone that would suggest a deep sumptuousness about the dresses but it has not worked. It is also darker on my work monitor.

Like he said - with colours like that I'd use em(y)
 
Colour works well for me, but then I'm colour biased ;)

(DJW could have written that for me :D )
